Nine crowned District Free Throw Champions

Four girls and five boys from the Fannin County and Polk County communities have earned the distinction of district champions in the 2019/20 Knights of Columbus state-wide Free Throw Championship. This contest is offered to children ranging in age from nine to 14 years old.

Lady Indians top FCMS Lady Rebels

The Fannin County Middle School eighth grade Lady Rebels basketball team hosted the Lumpkin County Lady Indians Thursday, January 16. Fannin and Lumpkin battled back and forth most of the game, but the Lady Indians were able to close out a 58-40 win over the Lady Rebels in the final quarter.

Cougars top Hiwassee Dam in three-overtime thriller

The Copper Basin Cougars basketball team hosted the Hiwassee Dam Eagles Friday, January 17. The fans got their money’s worth as the Cougars and Eagles slugged it out in regulation and three periods in overtime, until a victor was decided.

Grabowski, Mickens named to All-State team

The Copper Basin Cougars football team recently had two players named to the 1A All-State team. Junior quarterback Bryson Grabowski and senior wideout Chase Mickens received the honor, after helping the Cougars to a 6-5 season, going 3-1 in region play.

Seventh grade Lady Rebels top Lumpkin County

The Fannin County Middle School seventh grade Lady Rebels hosted the Lumpkin County Lady Indians Thursday, January 16, for the last home conference game of the season. The Lady Rebels came out strong in the paint and were able to jump out to an early lead and hold off Lumpkin for a 40-23 win.

Lady Cougars fall to Lady Bears

The Copper Basin Lady Cougars hosted the Tellico Plains Lady Bears Tuesday, January 7, for a district showdown. The Lady Cougars started out strong defensively, but fell to the undefeated Tellico Plains 49-16. Raegan Higdon led Copper Basin in the first quarter, scoring a two-point bucket.

Holt’s 29 points not enough in GAC loss

The Fannin County Lady Rebels traveled to Atlanta Tuesday, January 7, for a region rumble with the Greater Atlanta Christian Lady Spartans. Morgan Holt led the Lady Rebels with 29 points, but the Lady Spartans was able to win the game 66-49.

Rebels lose to Dawson County

The Fannin County Rebels hosted the Dawson County Tigers Friday, January 10, for a region matchup. The Rebels fought hard, but Dawson’s offensive output was too much for Fannin, as they fell 90-41.

Rebels fall to Greater Atlanta Christian

The Fannin County Rebels traveled to Atlanta Tuesday, January 7, to take on the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans in a region battle. The Rebels fought hard, but were unable to win as the fell to GAC 46-40.

Lady Cougars fall to Collegedale

The Copper Basin Lady Cougars basketball team traveled to Hamilton County, Tennessee, Monday, January 6, to take on Collegedale Academy. The Lady Cougars played well, but were unable to win the game as they fell to Collegedale 51-45.
