Rebels lose to Dawson County

The Fannin County Rebels hosted the Dawson County Tigers Friday, January 10, for a region matchup. The Rebels fought hard, but Dawson’s offensive output was too much for Fannin, as they fell 90-41.

Cohutta Hyde led Fannin in the first quarter, scoring five points on two, two-point buckets and a free throw. Jordan Bennett scored three points on a two-point bucket and free throw, followed by a Miles Johnson free throw for a nine point first quarter for the Rebels.

Dawson was able to score 10 points in the first to lead Fannin 10-9. The Rebels were held to three points in the second quarter as Bennett scored a two-point bucket and Andre Bivens converted a free throw. The Tigers erupted for 38 points in the second quarter to lead the Rebels 48-12 at halftime.

Hyde tried to bring the Rebels back in the third, scoring seven points on three, two-point baskets and a free throw. Eli Brisbay Cochran drained a deep three ball, while Tucker Hanson and Bennett scored a two-point basket each for a 14-point third quarter. Dawson County continued their scoring in the third, netting 32 points to lead Fannin 80-26 to start the fourth quarter.

The Rebels continued to fight in the fourth quarter, as Bivens scored five points on a three-point bucket and two-point basket. Hyde and Bennett scored four points each, with Hyde converting two, two-point buckets and Bennett netted a three-point bucket and a free throw. Dylan Collins worked the paint to churn out a two-point basket to cap a 15-point fourth quarter for Fannin. Dawson scored 10 points in the fourth as the Rebels fell 90-41.
