Seventh grade Lady Rebels top Lumpkin County

The Fannin County Middle School seventh grade Lady Rebels hosted the Lumpkin County Lady Indians Thursday, January 16, for the last home conference game of the season.

The Lady Rebels came out strong in the paint and were able to jump out to an early lead and hold off Lumpkin for a 40-23 win.

Emma Holloway led Fannin County in the first with three, two-point baskets and a free throw. Emma Buchanan drained a three-point bucket and Caylee Gaddis netted a two-point basket for a 12-point first quarter. Fannin held the Lady Indians to four points for a 12-4 lead to start the second quarter. Gaddis picked up where she left off in the second, scoring two, two-point baskets. Libby Stewart and Holloway scored a two-point bucket each for an eight-point second quarter to take a 20-9 lead at halftime.

Buchanan led the team in the third with five points on a three ball and two-point bucket, while Callie Ensley sank a three ball and Holloway scored a two-point basket. Maggie Ledford converted a free throw for an 11-point third quarter. Lumpkin County scored nine as the Lady Rebels increased their lead 31-18 to start the fourth quarter.

Buchanan scored two, two-point buckets in the fourth, while Ledford and Holloway scored a two-point basket each. Ensley converted a free throw to cap a nine point quarter for Fannin. Lumpkin County put up five points in the fourth as the Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Indians 40-23.
