Lady Cougars fall to Collegedale

The Copper Basin Lady Cougars basketball team traveled to Hamilton County, Tennessee, Monday, January 6, to take on Collegedale Academy.

The Lady Cougars played well, but were unable to win the game as they fell to Collegedale 51-45.

Raegan Higdon led Copper Basin in the first quarter, scoring five points on a three ball and two-point basket. Laney Jory netted two, two-point baskets and Emily Hemming drained a three-point bucket to give the Lady Cougars 12 points in the first quarter. Collegedale Academy scored 13 points to lead 13-12.

Higdon added five more points to her total in the second quarter, hitting a three-point bucket and two free throws. Jory got a two-point bucket to fall and Riley Smith converted a free throw to give the Lady Cougars eight points in the second quarter.

Collegedale scored nine points to lead Copper Basin 22-20 at halftime. The Lady Cougars erupted for 17 points in the third quarter. Smith led the team with six points on three, two-point buckets, while Jory scored four points on a two-point basket and two free throws. Hemming converted a free throw and rattled in a two-point basket, followed by Sapporiah Ross and Hidgon scoring a two-point basket each. Copper Basin held Collegedale to 15 points in the third as The Lady Cougars tied the game 37-37 to start the fourth quarter.

The Lady Cougars spread the scoring around in the fourth, as Hailey Brackett, Ross, Hemming and Higdon made a two-point basket each for eight points in the quarter. Collegedale was able to score 14 points in the quarter as Copper Basin lost a hard fought 51-45 battle.
