Lady Indians top FCMS Lady Rebels

The Fannin County Middle School eighth grade Lady Rebels basketball team hosted the Lumpkin County Lady Indians Thursday, January 16.

Fannin and Lumpkin battled back and forth most of the game, but the Lady Indians were able to close out a 58-40 win over the Lady Rebels in the final quarter.

Joselyn Wood led the Lady Rebels in the first knocking down two long range three-point buckets. Courtney Davis converted two free throws and Jayden Bailey converted one for a nine-point first quarter. Lumpkin County was able to score 13 in the first to lead 13-9. Davis heated up in the second quarter, scoring eight points on three, two-point baskets and two free throws.

Bailey converted two free throws and Macy Hawkins scored a two-point basket to give the Lady Rebels a 12-point second quarter.

Fannin’s defense held Lumpkin to eight points to tie the game up 21-21 at halftime.

Davis continued her lethal scoring in the third, scoring four points on two, two-point buckets. Bailey scored four points as well on a two-point basket and two free throws. Hawkins and Wood scored a two-point basket each to give the Lady Rebels a 12-point third quarter.

The Lady Indians scored 16 points in the third to take a 37-33 lead.

The Lady Rebels tried to rally in the fourth, with Davis scoring six points on two, two-point baskets and two free throws. Addison Smith converted a free throw to cap a seven point fourth quarter for Fannin.

Lumpkin County erupted for 21 points in the fourth as they escaped with a 58-40 win over the Lady Rebels.
