Lady Rebels Region 7AA Champs

Thirty-two minutes of playing time after the opening tipoff, the Fannin County Lady Rebels celebrated as the Region 7AA girls basketball champions Friday night, February 18, in the Fannin High School gym.
Fannin County High School senior Becca Ledford scored her 1,000th career point as a Lady Rebel in the team’s region tournament contest against Gordon Central. Ledford scored 18 points in the game. To learn the play that set up the career shot, and the outcome of the game, please see B3.

Lady Rebels end regular season with 55-21 win

The Fannin County Lady Rebels wrapped up the regular season last Friday night, February 11, with a 55-21 win at Pepperell High School. The victory over the Lady Dragons was what Fannin fans would have expected, plenty of offense and a defense that wouldn’t budge.

Wrestlers finish fifth in state, four place

The Fannin County Rebels wrestling team left its mark this year, returning from the state championships in Macon as the fifth place team in all of Georgia. Four wrestlers came back from the event in Macon this past weekend having placed in state tournament competition.

Cougars defeat Sale Creek for second time

The Copper Basin Cougars continued to dominate the Sale Creek Panthers when the district rival visited Copper Basin Thursday night, February 3. Less than a week earlier, the Cougars handed the Panthers a loss on their home court. The sweep was completed with a 57-46 Copper Basin win at home.

Ten Fannin wrestlers to compete in state tourney

Ten Fannin County High School wrestlers have qualified to compete in the State Traditional Wrestling Championships this weekend in Macon. They earned the right to advance by their finishes this past weekend at the Sectional Traditionals tournament at Jeff Davis High School.

Megan Queen Orton scored 972 points

By Mike Harper ---- It is easy to spot assistant coach Megan Queen Orton when the Fannin County High School girls basketball team is standing in front of the Lady Rebels bench. At six feet, three inches Megan can look down physically at her charges when she is delivering instructions.
The Fannin County Middle School eighth grade Rebels, shown here in their team photo, won the Mountain Athletic Conference tourney title with a 60-37 defeat of Clear Creek. FCMS eighth grade Rebels win league title

Fifteen first quarter points were the springboard the eighth grade boys from Fannin County Middle School needed to win the North Georgia Mountain League tourney and bring home the league championship.
