The Fannin County Rebels wrestling team left its mark this year, returning from the state championships in Macon as the fifth place team in all of Georgia.
Four wrestlers came back from the event in Macon this past weekend having placed in state tournament competition.
Taylor Collis and Corbin Davenport both scored second place finishes, Blake Summers came in third and Carson Collis finished fourth.
Coach Chuck Patterson had high praise for the entire team and its efforts this season. After the state competition wrapped up, he said, “These kids put themselves through unbelievably tough practices every day, they challenge and question themselves emotionally and mentally daily to achieve a goal that is only reached by a select few. I am so proud of these guys for what they do for this program and themselves daily.
“After coming off a state title run you’re going to get everyone’s best shot, and our Rebels responded in kind every time they stepped on the mat. I’m immensely proud of mine and coach (Alan) Collis’ kids, they all represented Fannin County with class and effort. I’m so excited for what the future holds for this program.”
Besides the state tournament accomplishments, this season the Rebels amassed a 22-7 dual meet record, they were the Area Dual Team champions, finished in fourth place in the state Dual Team Championship and qualified 10 wrestlers for the state Traditional tournament.
Patterson concluded, “The kids and parents in fannin are tough and full of class! And I’m so proud to be a Rebel!”
