Lady Rebels end regular season with 55-21 win

The Fannin County Lady Rebels wrapped up the regular season last Friday night, February 11, with a 55-21 win at Pepperell High School.

The victory over the Lady Dragons was what Fannin fans would have expected, plenty of offense and a defense that wouldn’t budge.

The first quarter mirrored many this season with Fannin scoring six points while the defense did the work and held the opponents to six points.

A three from Ellie Cook, two points from Becca Ledford and a foul shot from Courtney Davis accounted for all the Lady Rebels’ offense.

Then, the second quarter started, and Cook set a nine-point pace. A three from Reagan York and two more points by Becca Ledford led the Lady Rebels to outscore Pepperell 14-6.

A third-quarter display of unbeatable defense on both ends of the court saw the Lady Rebels outscore their hosts 18-2.

Fannin’s points came from a balanced attack led by Davis with five, O’Neal with a perfect 4-4 performance from the foul line, Jenna Young with four, Cook with four, and Ledford with a free throw.

And the net didn’t stop moving in the final eight minutes for Fannin County. Davis got on track with eight points from the floor, Ava Queen hit from three-point range, and Ledford, Young and O’Neal added two each in a 17-point effort. Meanwhile, the defense continued to keep Pepperell at bay, the Lady Dragons scoring only seven points.

This marked the second meeting of the region opponents this year, Fannin having won 57-31 at home.

The Lady Rebels enter post-season tournaments  as the number one seed with a 12-0 region record. Overall, Fannin posted a 22-2 record this year and has been the top ranked AA team in Georgia for several weeks.
