Shirah shines at Navy

The honors keep rolling in for former Fannin County baseball player and current Navy Midshipmen Matthew Shirah. First, he was selected to the 2023 All-Patriot League second team and then was named to the 2023 Academic All-Patriot League team.

Rebels wrap up baseball season with banquet

The Fannin County High School baseball program wrapped up their 2023 season with their banquet Monday, May 15, with a multitude of awards given to many student athletes.

Copper Basin’s Lady Cougar softball team took on Sale Creek Wednesday, May 10, looking to win the District 5-A championship. Sale Creek jumped ahead early and then held on to squeak out a 7-5 win over the gritty Lady Cougars.

Fannin track & field shines at state meet

The Fannin County High School (FCHS) Track and Field teams brought home many podium finishes at the Georgia High School Association 2A State Championship over the course of three days. The FCHS boys team came in fourth place in the entire state out of over 40 teams at the State Championship meet.

Fannin sees season end with pair of playoff losses

The Fannin County High School Rebels baseball team wrapped up their season in the GHSA state playoff match up against the Fellowship Christian School Paladins Monday, April 24, with two losses of 2-5 and 0-2. During the first game, the Rebels were off to a slow start.

Trout Trot draws over 140 runners

The annual Trout Trot, part of the Riverwalk Run Series, brought over 140 runners, with 111 finishing the 5K race through McCaysville and Copperhill this past Saturday, April 29. John Metzgar of Hayesville, North Carolina, was first to cross the finish line in a time of 19:37:7.

Fannin track and field teams capture medals

The Fannin County High School  track and field athletes traveled to Gordon Central High School for the Region 7AA meet Monday, April 25, and Tuesday, April 26. Fannin had 21 athletes qualify for the State Sectionals meet Saturday, May 6, at Rockmart High School.
