Fannin County High School’s track and field teams wrapped up their season and recognized their accomplishments for this season at their banquet Wednesday, May 17.
The coaches recognized sophomore Lindsey Holloway. Coach Lucas Roof said, “ Sophomore Lindsey Holloway qualified for the GHSA AA Track & Field State Championships in four events: 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, 3200 meter run, and 4x800 meter relay. Four events is the maximum number of events in which an athlete can qualify. She also medaled in three events at the State Championship meet: 1600 meter run, 3200 meter run, and 4x800 meter relay. Receiving three medals at the state championship level is a major accomplishment and unprecedented in Fannin County.”
They also recognized senior Matthew Crowder. “Due to his performance at the State Championship Meet, Senior Matthew Crowder met the National Silver-Level Standard in Shot Put and Discus. This is an elite level national standard and is a rare and major accomplishment.”
There were a number of awards given to many athletes. The Athletes’ Choice awards went to Zechariah Prater and Carlee Holloway. The Positive Athlete awards went to Clara Vander Borght and Logan Long. The Most Improved awards went to Karli Sams, Natalie Herendon, Luke Callihan and Corbin Davenport. The Most Valuable Athlete awards went to Lindsey Holloway and Matthew Crowder.
