Lady Cougars sweep TCPS

The Copper Basin Lady Cougar volleyball team cruised to a (3-0) win Monday, September 13, when they hosted the Tennessee Christian Preparatory School (TCPS). The Lady Cougars started off on fire as they claimed the first set 25-9.

Copper Basin falls to district foe Sale Creek

The Copper Basin Cougars hosted district foe Sale Creek Friday, September 17, in Copperhill, looking to get back in the groove after a lengthy layoff. The Cougars played well at times, but mistakes late in the game proved to be too much to overcome as the Panthers left with a 34-20 win.

Fannin rolls over Banks 30-13

The Fannin County Rebels traveled to Homer, Georgia, Friday, September 17, to take on the Bank County Leopards. Fannin shook off a slow start to take the game over in the second quarter and run away from the hosts for a convincing 30-13 victory.

Fannin County cross country shines in meet

The Fannin County Rebel and Lady Rebel cross country team traveled to Tallulah Falls, Georgia, Tuesday, September 7, to compete in the Cookies ‘N Quotes Cross County Meet. The meet saw 11 girls’ teams and 76 runners, while the boys’ team faced off against 13 teams and 105 runners.

FCMS Lady Rebels volleyball team shines

The Fannin County Middle School volleyball team has had a great season so far going undefeated in their league. The Lady Rebels started their season in Lumpkin County at their Jamboree. The Lady Rebels swept Lumpkin and Dawson (2-0) each, before tying White County (1-1).

Fannin Mountain Bike Team competes in first race

The Fannin Composite Mountain Bike Team competed in their first race of the 2021 season Saturday, September 11, through Sunday, September 12, in Rome, Georgia, at Kingston Downs. The course was a five mile trail through woods and fields.

Copper Basin falls to Lookout Valley in region competition

The Lady Cougars battled in front of their home crowd Thursday, September 9, against region rival Lookout Valley. The game went for four sets as the Lady Yellow Jackets ultimately won the game 3-1. The first set was won by Lookout Valley as they held on to a  25-18 lead.

Dade County jumps out to quick lead to defeat Fannin

The Fannin County Lady Rebels fell behind early and could not recover Tuesday, September 7, when they traveled to Dade County to take on the Wolverines in a region matchup. Jaylen Green and Josilynn Newton got one hit each in the game.

The Copper Basin Lady Cougar volleyball team battled the Meigs County Lady Tigers in front of a home crowd Tuesday, September 7. The Lady Cougars played well, but ultimately lost the game (3-0).

Messer, Stiles claim week two

Week two of The News Observer’s football contest was one to be remembered as Ohio State fell to Oregon and Texas got a warm welcome to the SEC, as they were dominated by Arkansas. There was a typo on the tiebreaker game that said Jets versus Bills, however, the Bills played the Steelers in game 16.
