Polk County’s low income residents to receive commodities

The Southeast Tennessee Human Resource Agency (Sethra) will be distributing USDA commodities to eligible Polk County residents December 12 and 13.  Commodities will be distributed Thursday, December 12 at the Ducktown Sethra Office and Friday December 13 at the Benton Sethra Office from 9 a.m.

“Four Old Broads” to start theater’s 2020 season

The Blue Ridge Community Theater is hosting open auditions this coming Monday and Tuesday, December 9 and 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. for their first main stage show of their 2020 Season, “Four Old Broads.”  Auditions are open to the public and both experienced and first time actors are welcome.

Trail association plans hikes

The Benton MacKaye Trail Association will sponsor the following hikes in December: December 5, 6.1 mile moderate hike on the BMT in the Cohuttas: Bushy Head Gap to McKenny Gap and part way back includes shuttle. Tom Sewell will be the leader;  December 7, 4.1 mile loop trail at Vogel State Park.

Restaurants earn perfect scores

Fannin County Environmental Health has released the scores of recent restaurant health inspections. Scores ranged from 96 to 100. The following examines ten restaurants that were evaluated between October 28 and November 18.

Brainstorming meet Thur. for gallery to help disabled

Artists, volunteers and donors are all being invited to a brainstorming and planning reception for the North Georgia Autism Foundation (NGAF) Art Gallery. The event will be held Thursday, December 5, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Suite 41, 11 Overview Drive in Blue Ridge.

Current and former students, colleagues, friends and family are invited to celebrate Fannin County High School Assistant Principal Theresa “T.C.” Dillard’s retirement Thursday, December 12 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The celebration is on a drop in basis at the high school cafeteria.

Concerns over ISO voiced by board

Fannin County Fire Chief Larry Thomas told the Board of Commissioners, during a meeting Tuesday, November 26, that all of the fire hydrants in the county have been inspected and hose and pump testing will be conducted just after the first of the year.
