The Blue Ridge Community Theater is hosting open auditions this coming Monday and Tuesday, December 9 and 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. for their first main stage show of their 2020 Season, “Four Old Broads.”
Auditions are open to the public and both experienced and first time actors are welcome. Monologues are not required.
“Four Old Broads,” a comedy by Leslie Kimbell, is set in a nursing home called Magnolia Place and follows four old broads: Beatrice, the former burlesque star; Eaddy Mae, the pious former nurse; Maude, the soap-opera obsessed frump; and Imogene, the newest arrival at Magnolia Place.
Also in the cast are Pat, a pushy, rude nurse; Ruby Sue, another nurse who quietly swoons over her romance novels; and Sam, the retired Elvis impersonator and all-around-casanova.
Directed by Lee Dittman, this show is sure to be a great start to BRCT’s 20th year.
Beatrice Shelton desperately needs a vacation – and NOT another trip up to Helen, Georgia to see that “precious little German village for the umpteenth time.” A Sassy Seniors Cruise through the Caribbean may be just the ticket if she can just convince her best friend, Eaddy Mae Clayton, to stop praying and go with her.
Unfortunately, things have not been very pleasant at Magnolia Place Assisted Living since Nurse Pat Jones began working there. The newest resident, Imogene Fletcher, is suddenly losing her memory. Maude Jenkins is obsessed with her favorite soap opera and planning her own funeral. Sam Smith, retired Elvis impersonator, keeps trying to bed every woman in the building.
A mystery unfolds with laughter as the gals try to outsmart the evil Nurse Pat Jones and figure out why so many residents have been moved to “the dark side,” what exactly IS that mysterious pill, and what happened to Doctor Head? Hilarity ensues as Imogene goes undercover and Maude enters the Miss Magnolia Senior Citizen Pageant to throw Pat off their trail. If they can solve the mystery, they may make it to the cruise ship after all!
This show has received rave reviews, with Carolina Curtain Call saying, “If The Golden Girls was rebooted today, it would look much like “Four Old Broads,” a clever geriatric comedy.”
This show opens up March 5, and runs Thursday through Sunday until March 22. Although auditions will be this coming week, rehearsals will not begin until after the new year.
