Ken Rush to be honored Dec. 3

Thirty years after Ken Rush came to the Ducktown Basin Museum a reception is planned in his honor as he officially bids farewell to the community he has faithfully served. The museum’s board of directors is hosting a reception for Rush Tuesday, December 3, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Tim Towe Tennessee’s Most Valuable Umpire

Fannin County Recreation Department Athletic Coordinator Tim Towe is the first ever Tennessee Collegiate Umpire Association’s (TCUA) Most Valuable Umpire. Towe received this title during TCUA’s end-of-the-year banquet at the University of Tennessee October 18.
Copper Basin High School junior Riley Smith recently won the Polk County Fairest of the Fair pageant in Benton. Smith will be traveling to Nashville to compete in January. She is the daughter of Kevin and Holly Smith.

Christmas classic debuts November 21

The Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” will be performed as the Blue Ridge Community Theater’s main stage production this holiday season.  The play will run November 21 through December 15 and curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Turkey Trot 5K to benefit MACA

The 10th Annual Blue Ridge Turkey Trot 5K benefiting Mountain Area Christian Academy will take place Thanksgiving morning, November 28, in downtown Blue Ridge. Registration opens at 7 a.m. and the run begins promptly at 8 a.m.

Adopt A Pet

In the past week, officers brought in five dogs. Three dogs were reclaimed by their owners, one was adopted and two were transfered to Ozzie To The Rescue.  Officers and volunteers alike hope folks may be willing to open their home and their hearts to the dogs in their facility.
