Graves pleased with three strong quarters

Copper Basin’s Cougars played three strong quarters of football when they hosted the Tigers from Rosman, North Carolina, in scrimmage action Friday night. First year head coach Brett Graves was upbeat as he looked back on the game Sunday.

The Fannin County High School Rebels football team earned their second scrimmage win 48-33 over White County Friday night, August 9, in Blue Ridge. The win came after a slow first half. The Rebels started the game on offense at their 20 yard line.

Fannin dominates Pickens in scrimmage

The Fannin County High School Rebels laced up their cleats and returned to the football field as they continued to get ready for the 2024 season with a scrimmage against Pickens County High School.
The 1942-43 Blue Ridge boys basketball team was inducted into the Fannin County Sports Hall of Fame this year. Children and relatives of team members, from left, John Querry, representing his father Ed Querry; Johnny Farmer, for his father Junior Farmer; Marie McGill Herndon, for her uncle Bill McGill; and Fred Jones Jr., for his father, attended the induction ceremony and accepted the plaque. Other team members were Jack Miller and Oliver LeMaster.

The Fannin County Sports Hall of Fame welcomed the 2024 class during its annual induction banquet earlier this summer in the Performing Arts Center on the Fannin County High School campus.

Softball opens first, volleyball follows

The Fannin County Lady Rebels softball team is the first group of athletes to begin regular season play this fall as they travel to Gilmer County Monday, August 5, for their season opener. The first pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m.

Many people talk about the blue-ribbon streams in Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina. But did you know there is a stream not too for from Blue Ridge that mimics the  experience of fishing the streams of the Great Smoky Mountains? It’s called Fires Creek.

Lucas Roof of Mineral Bluff set the pace for area runners who were among the finishers in the Blue Ridge Freedom 5K that took place downtown early July 4. A total of 681 runners and walkers completed the race that got underway at 7:30 a.m.
