Fannin crushes Model to open region season

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels took a big 12-3 win in their region opener against Model High School.

The two teams played to a 2-2 tie at the end of the first inning. The Lady Rebels opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two doubles.

The Lady Devils tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a dropped third strike and a ground out. Then, Model took the lead in the bottom of the second. An error scored one run, to give the Lady Devils the edge, 3-2.

The Lady Rebels exploded with eight runs in the third inning Tuesday, August 6.

Callie Ensley singled, scoring two runs. Presley Daves singled, scoring one run. Aidyn Patterson singled, scoring one run. Makayla Stiles singled, scoring one run. Ciara Harper laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run. Aaleyah Rogers singled, scoring one run, and Myla Rogers grounded out, scoring one run.

Fannin added two more runs in the top of the fifth, holding Model scoreless in the final three innings.

Natalie Herendon helped earn the win for the Lady Rebels. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking one.

Fannin tallied 11 hits in the game. Ensley provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Lady Rebels with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Lead off hitter A. Rogers led with three hits in four at bats. M. Rogers collected two hits for Fannin in three at bats. A. Rogers, Ensley, and M. Rogers each stole multiple bases for the Lady Rebels.

As a team, Fannin County stole 11 bases in the game.
