Local runners among 5K winners

Three Fannin County residents ran away from Saturday’s Walk the Line 5K with first place wins in their divisions.

Jacob Gailey, Mike Cosentino and Anthony Rivera were among several local runners earning spots on the leader boards in the race billed as covering two states as it winds through McCaysville, Georgia, and Copperhill, Tennessee.

Gailey, of Mineral Bluff, took first place in the 20-29 Male group  and was second overall.

Cosentino, of Blue Ridge, finished in first place in the 50-59 Male group and came in ninth place overall.

Rivera, of Mineral Bluff, posted a first place finish in the 60-69 Male group and was 12th overall.

Other notable finishes among area racers included:

•Merritt Murphy, of Suches, who finished third in the 1-9 Male group;

•Donny Holloway, of Copperhill, who finished third in the 10-19 Male group;

•Jorge Perez, of Cherry Log, came in third place in the 30-39 Male, and sixth overall;

•Shandi McAlear, of Blue Ridge, placed third in the 30-39 Female group; and,

•Jeff Himebaugh, of Blue Ridge, placed third in the 60-69 Male group.

Two other notable finishers were Kyle Manners, of Blue Ridge, with a 19th place overall finish and Eric Darden of Mineral Bluff who was the 30th finisher overall.

Zachary Parkinson of Riceville, Tennessee, and a member of the Ocoee Inn Runners, took first place overall among the field 164 finishers. A total of 200 runners signed up for this, the second event in the annual Riverwalk Run Series.
