VFW rebooting under new leadership

The Fannin County chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is looking to reboot as members work to grow the organization’s membership and in turn their various activities. Ray Arthur, who was recently elected commander of VFW Post 6570, said “We need veterans to join.

FREE SUPPLIES, SHOTS FOR SCHOOL

Free food, sports physicals, immunizations, haircuts, school supplies and hygiene kits will all be part of the Fannin County Schools Summer Bash this Saturday, July 9, at Fannin County High School. The event begins at 9 a.m.  in the new gym and continues until 3 p.m.

If you’re in search of a fur-ever friend, look no further! The Fannin County Animal Control is full of friendly pups waiting to find families. This past week, 13 dogs were taken in, while three were owner reclaimed. Six puppies were taken in by the Blue Ridge Humane Society.
Shane Baugh served his fellow soldiers as a combat medic and emergency room nurse for 31 years. During that time, he took on many assignments including flying helicopter transfers of critically injured patients from the Baghdad ER to an Air Force hospital.

Shane Baugh doesn’t brag about the commendation he received in front of 3,500 medical professionals at a Military Health System Conference in Washington, D.C. He says the experience was “interesting.” He tells about it as an afterthought.
