Fannin County High School hosted the annual Awards Day ceremony Tuesday, May 24, to honor students who went the extra mile to pursue their academics. The event was held in the Performing Arts Center.

Bob Renneke worked to hold back his emotions as he told how nothing could have prepared him for what he saw in war torn Ukraine. Renneke, a Vietnam veteran, returned from Ukraine April 12 after four weeks in the country that is being invaded by the Russian army.

Copper Basin High School (CBHS) Graduate Cade Bigham was the 2022 recipient of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship. When making recipient selections, consideration and preference was given to students who had plans to return to and reinvest their education in the Polk County community.

The Fannin County Animal Control have many dogs who are ready to be adopted in to their forever homes. This past week, 17 dogs were taken in. Two dogs were adopted, two were owner reclaimed and six were sent to a rescue center.

Fannin County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Robert Graham has been awarded the James H. Creel Jr., MD, Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Pioneer of the Year Award. The honor was presented at the Northwest Georgia Region 1 EMS Awards banquet at the Walker County Civic Center May 12.

Fannin County graduates receive scholarships

Members of the Fannin County High School Class of 2022 received over a million-and-a-half dollars worth of scholarships during the presentation of a variety of awards Tuesday, May 17, in the Performing Arts Center on the FCHS Campus. The potential of those scholarships is over two million dollars.

Board buys land near East Fannin

Fannin County Board of Education members voted Monday to purchase a little more than 28 acres of land adjoining East Fannin Elementary School for $450,560. School Superintendent Dr. Michael Gwatney said the purchase included two tracts, one containing 3.26 acres and the other with 24.
