Body found in pond identified

“At this point, no foul play is suspected,” Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Sergeant J.K. Davenport said.

Davenport was referring to the body of a man found floating in a pond off Harris Road just outside McCaysville the day before.

The victim is identified as Nicholas E. Brumbley, 36, of a Tennessee post office box address.

Davenport said the pond’s owner saw the body and called authorities at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 20.

Davenport said that, besides the body, a shoe and walking stick were floating in the pond and the victim’s wallet was discovered on his body.

Davenport said investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy by the state crime lab to determine the exact cause of death.
