Turkey Trot 5K to benefit MACA

The 10th Annual Blue Ridge Turkey Trot 5K benefiting Mountain Area Christian Academy will take place Thanksgiving morning, November 28, in downtown Blue Ridge.

Registration opens at 7 a.m. and the run begins promptly at 8 a.m. in front of the children’s park downtown at the corner of East Main and Church Streets.

Online registrants can pick up packages November 27 at the downtown Blue Ridge park from 3 to 6 p.m. Online registration is $30, with the deadline being November 26. Onsite registration is $35.

On race day, folks are asked to bring a canned food item to be donated to the Fannin County Good Samaritans food pantry.

Organizers say the run will take place “rain, shine, cold or very cold.” The run will only be canceled due to severe weather and “in this rare case we will not reschedule and no refunds or rain checks will be given.”

Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers and all results will be posted on the website within 48 hours of the race. Organizers say they’ll also have first place trophies for 10 year age brackets for male and female placers.

The event supports MACA with a portion of proceeds going to “organizations that are close to the school’s heart – Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Cure Childhood Cancer.
