Prayers, thoughts offered for family

A fatal wreck that claimed the life of John Holsonback and sent three of his siblings to an area hospital has left students, teachers, and the community in mourning for the Holsonback family. The crash occurred April 3 at 1:57 p.m.

By Bobbi Pippin Alcohol sales were favored two-to-one in straw polls among citizens who packed Morganton City Hall Thursday, April 4. Morganton City Council members held the meeting as they consider a draft ordinance to allow the sale of beer and wine by both package and by-the-drink.

Two charged with drug trafficking

Two persons were arrested and held without bond Thursday, March 21, accused of fentanyl trafficking and other drug related charges as the result of a month long investigation by a trio of law enforcement agencies.

Farm blessing comes just as temperatures fall

Some folks probably thought the first annual Blessing of the Seeds & Farms, Gardens, Fields & Herbs came just in time Tuesday morning, March 19. A small crowd gathered for the event at Mercier Orchards as the early morning temperatures nose dived into the mid-20s.

Fannin schools host board’s training day

By Bobbi Pippin The Fannin County Board of Education attended their Spring 2024 local board training on Tuesday, February 27th. Every semester, the board of education members chose to take the entire day to attend training and visit the schools.

By Bobbi Pippin Fannin County Middle School students’ hard work finally paid off on Thursday, March 7, when they were able to release 70 Rainbow Trout into Weavers Creek. This has been a year long project for the 6th grade as well as some of the 7th grade students.
