Doc’s Healing Hives offers hobby, community for local veterans

Doc’s Healing Hives provides not only a new hobby but also a community for local veterans. Owner Tim Doherty is a veteran who discovered the therapeutic benefits of beekeeping. He decided he could create an organization with this to help others.
McCaysville City Council members Billy Wayne Chastain and Susan Kiker raised concerns over trucks and trailers taking up space and blocking the entrance to the main pavilion at the Toccoa River Park. This was the scene early one morning after the council meeting when they voiced their concerns. Signs will be posted to stop the problem and police officers will be enforcing the order.

Chimpanzees that were once kept behind closed doors for research, never feeling the grass between their toes or the sunshine on their face are now experiencing what their lives were meant to be. The ribbon cutting ceremony for a brand new 2+ acre habitat was held at Project Chimps on May 17.
