Family traditions don’t always consist of holidays and get togethers, but sometimes continue a legacy set by parents or ancestors. For Thom Potito, the tradition was joining the military and following in the footsteps of his father and uncles who served in World War II.

The Knights of Columbus Blue Ridge Council 12126 presented $4,005.94 to Fannin County Special Olympics at the start of the track and field events at the high school football stadium last week. The money was raised in cooperation with La Pizzeria when the restaurant off Forge Mill Road celebrated its Grand Reopening Thursday, April 11. All proceeds from the event, as well as tips and donations went to Special Olympics.

The Fannin County Special Olympics Track and Field event returned to the Fannin County High School football field for the first time in seven years Friday, April 12.

RIDE THE RIDGE DRAWS CROWD

Ride the Ridge filled the parking lot at Fannin County Middle School Saturday as it never had before with Jeeps and people to benefit the Fannin County Sheriff Office’s Shop With A Cop program. Approximately 35 participants had already signed up before the official start of registration at 10:30 a.

Project Chimps continues effort as a safe haven

Saturday, April 13, was a beautiful day to hike, have a cookout, or visit some chimpanzees. It was also the perfect day for the annual Chimps Rock. Tucked away in the woods of Morganton is Project Chimps, a safe haven for 95 chimpanzees.

Bob and Betty Phillips, 79 years of love and marriage

By Bobbi Pippin So many people search for a love that will stand the test of time. Bob and Betty Phillips found just that. At 79 years of marriage, they are the longest married couple in Fannin County. Bob is turning 99 in May and Betty just turned 94.

Fannin students shine in TSA competitions

Students from both Fannin County High School and middle school brought home 12 awards from Technology Students of America (TSA) competition in Athens, Georgia. The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) brought together competitors from all over Georgia.
