Teachers: Fannin school system honors top educators
Christy Brogden was named the Fannin County School System’s Teacher of the Year when the county’s top educators were honored Tuesday, May 14.
The school system held its annual banquet to celebrate Teachers of the Year from each of the county’s five schools.
Brogden is a kindergarten interrelated resource teacher at West Fannin Elementary School. When asked about her favorite thing about teaching, Brogden spoke of the children. She said, “Building that community of trust and love with one another makes this job one of the best to have.”
West Fannin Principal Alison Danner spoke very highly of Brogden saying, “She sees each student as a unique challenge and works to better them in any way she can.”
The Teacher of the Year Runner-up was awarded to East Fannin Elementary School’s fourth-grade special education teacher, Kayla Majors. When describing Majors, Principal of East Fannin Elementary School Matt Price said, “She is open to trying new things to address behaviors or academic concerns.” Majors says that one of her favorite parts of teaching is seeing the growth in each student from the beginning of the year to the end.
Several speakers at the event spoke of teachers who have moved them in their lifetime and the importance of the teaching profession as a whole.
Blue Ridge Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year is Capprice Ramsey, who teaches first grade. Mark Young, principal at Blue Ridge Elementary School, stated, “Although she is a leader among her peers and she does a lot of things, the love that she has for the kids when the door is closed and she is teaching is far beyond great. It’s tremendous.” Ramsey stated that her favorite part of her job is seeing the kids’ milestones every day.
Fannin County Middle School’s Teacher of the Year is Jill Abercrombie. Abercrombie spoke on how much she loves finding the talents embedded within students that they might not even know they have. Fannin County Middle School Principal April Hodges states, “She encourages her students, she finds out special things about them, and she really finds ways to make them feel special in her classroom.”
Fannin County High School’s Teacher of the Year went to Christie Rose. The principal of Fannin County High School Scott Ramsey stated, “She understands that students have many things going on in their life, and that’s why she’s always been willing to go that extra mile.” Rose describes her favorite part of her job by saying, “I just love watching kids blossom in their learning and being able to help them achieve the goals that they want to.”
