Mason charged with kidnapping, attempted murder in Polk County

Trace Lee Mason, 38, of 143 Pine Ridge Road, Farner, was held without bond in the Polk County Jail last week on felony charges of Especially Aggravated Kidnapping and Attempted Second Degree Murder, according to Polk County records.

The incidents are alleged to have occurred Monday, May 13.

According to the victim’s statement, she and Mason left court together and went to the Sonic in Benton. Mason fell asleep, woke up agitated and began beating her in the head with a Ravioli can. He made her get into the backseat and then the floorboard for the trip back to his residence in Farner.

At the residence, he began to kick and hit her, and pressed a hatchet against her neck. He is also accused of beating the victim with a flashlight while he held her against her will.

Polk County deputies responded to the residence acting on an anonymous complaint, according to the warrants against Mason sworn out by detectives Cody Day and Greg Price.

The deputies found the victim with her head covered in blood. Mason was taken into custody and the victim was taken by EMS to meet a Lifeforce helicopter, then flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

The victim sustained several broken bones, multiple bruises and lacerations requiring both stitches and staples.
