Doc’s Healing Hives provides not only a new hobby but also a community for local veterans.
Owner Tim Doherty is a veteran who discovered the therapeutic benefits of beekeeping. He decided he could create an organization with this to help others.
He founded Doc’s Healing Hives to help fellow veterans heal through beekeeping. He hosts a two-day workshop where veterans are able to learn the ins and outs of beekeeping, build their own hives, and finally take home their bees. They are given all the equipment needed to complete the course and start their very own apiary.
Not only is beekeeping a great method of relaxation and calming for the veterans, but the veterans are also able to create a community with other veterans who share the same experiences. In the June workshop, by the end of the second day of the workshop, nobody would ever know that group of people had just met.
Doc’s Healing Hives started in 2017 and it’s only the beginning. Doherty has big plans for Doc’s Healing Hives and has a passion for what he does.

This course is free to veterans, immediate family members, and caretakers.
