Assessment notices that  were mailed to Fannin County property owners Friday, June 28, include a tax estimate based on last year’s millage rates. But the actual tax bill will be based on the millage rates that have not yet been adopted by the current boards of commissioners and education.

Chastain to serve on House study committee

State Representative Johnny Chastain got his wish last week when he was named to a House of Representatives Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters. House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newton) named Chastain (R-Blue Ridge) as one of seven committee members.

Fannin FFA members learn leadership

This summer 17 students from Fannin County Middle and High School FFA Chapters attended a Summer Leadership Camp (SLC) at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center in Covington, on the banks of Jackson Lake. Summer Leadership Camp is open to FFA and FCCLA students from all over the state of Georgia.
“You’ll never be judged when you come to the sheriff’s office. We’re here to help you. And if you don’t want to come to us, call and a deputy will come to you,” Davenport said.

Sheriff’s office has new weapon to fight scams

The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office has added a new weapon to its arsenal as it works to fight the scam artists that prey on area residents. Investigations Sergeant J.K. Davenport talked about the Electronic Recovery and Access to Data (ERAD) computer system last week.

Three men living in Blue Ridge shared a 99th birthday party June 17 at Blue Ridge Assisted Living, but that’s not all they share with each other. Amongst them are bravery, strength, and resilience. Joel (Hatch) Hatchell, Bill Langford, and John Lindsay all fought for our country in World War II.

Citizens battle fears for children’s safety, losing funds

Fears over losing a Boys & Girls Club in the Copper Basin won out over safety concerns at a meeting of the Polk County commission Thursday, June 20.

Zoo takes over library

Fannin County Public Library doubled as a petting zoo on Wednesday, June 12 when several animals were brought in for the children to learn about and even pet. Roy from ZooPro Adventures hosted the exciting event.

Adult education tutors honored

North Georgia Technical College Fannin Literacy Action Group (NGTC/FLAG) held an event to honor their tutors who have volunteered their time to help others. Board members and tutors gathered on Thursday, June 13, to enjoy lunch together and reminisce on their time with FLAG.
The Fannin County School System honored Martha Williams for her hours of hard work and dedication to the Community Eligibility Provision program.
