The results from the water test completed on June 4 at Morganton Point now indicate acceptable levels of E. coli.
Currently, there is a swimming advisory on the Chattahooche-Oconee Forest Service webpage that states, “swimming and wading at the beach at the Morganton Point Recreation Area on Lake Blue Ridge, Fannin County, Georgia, are not recommended.”
“Results of a routine water test identified conditions, likely due to recent heavy rains, that exceed water quality standards established by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD).”
According to Forest Service Public Affairs Officer Laura Fitzmorris, for the advisory to be removed there must be a 30-day average within acceptable limits per the Georgia Environmental Protection Agency.
Water will be tested again and the results from that test will be back on the afternoon Wednesday, June 12.
As of now, the advisory still stands. The swimming area is still open to the public, but it has yet to be deemed completely safe. Visitors may swim at their own risk.
