Fannin County courts temporarily closed

Courts within the Fannin County Courthouse will be closed until further notice. Chief Superior Court Judge of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, Brenda Weaver, has made the decision "in an abundance of caution" after multiple employees have exhibited symptoms of COVID-19.

Sparky, named by Fannin County Animal Control volunteers, is this week’s featured dog of the week yet again! Sparky is a young mix and is full of life. He’s got a soft white coat with black patches and spots of brown. He plays well with other dogs and is ready for a forever home.
The Tennessee Valley Authority hung a huge American flag off the penstock at Blue Ridge Dam just in time for the Fourth of July. Tri-State EMC proudly displayed its flag from a boom truck at the office on Highway 5 south of McCaysville. Although crowds were smaller than some expected, thousands of people turned out for the annual fireworks displays in Blue Ridge and McCaysville/Copperhill.

Meeting set to discuss fire hydrants

The Fannin County Fire Department is currently working to finish up fire hydrant checks for this year. According to Fire Chief Larry Thomas, the department still needs to check 156 hydrants out of the 948 hydrants within the county as of July 2.

Legendary Polk County lawman Harold “Whitey” Ramsey passed away June 22. He was 83. Ramsey served in law enforcement 18 years, ten of those as Polk County sheriff. He first became sheriff in 1972.

Amid a variety of changes in programming and guidelines, Monica Clark has taken the reins at Fannin County Public Library as the new branch manger and implemented several changes to allow the library to continue serving patrons during the COVID-19 pandemic.
