On Friday, August 13, at the Copper Basin Community Center, 10 more Polk County senior citizens graduated after completing 15 hours of computer training. This brings the total to 21 seniors who have completed the training thus far, and each one received a new Chromebook. Polk decreases beer sales buffer to 900 feet

“This is a one time chance to make sure of some level of protection for a school or church.” Those were the words of Polk County Commissioner Greg Brooks as he urged other commissioners to pass a resolution lowering the buffer distance for beer sales.

Fannin County commissioners have agreed to put some “skin in the game” in hopes that countless county residents might someday be able to receive new, or improved, internet service.

Organizers promise there will be plenty of excitement during the rodeo this weekend in Blue Ridge. The 25th annual event, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Blue Ride and Mountain Valley Motors, begins at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, August 20 and 21. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Blue Ridge qualifying ends Friday at noon

Those interested in running for Blue Ridge mayor or a seat on the city council have until this Friday, August 20, by noon to qualify. Qualifying is held at city hall, 480 West First Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day this week with a one-hour lunch break from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
