To my readers, While I am recovering from a brief hospital stay and receiving physical therapy and home nursing care, (I am feeling much better and thank you for your prayers) I will repeat some columns that I wrote in 1992 about the naming of our county.

Fannin County resident Linda Sledge just completed the Trans North Georgia (TNGA) bikepacking adventure ride for the fifth time at 74 years young. Although there were moments when Sledge wanted to quit, “Dropping out was not an option. It’s a mind over matter thing.

Morganton man killed in Labor Day accident

Luther “Luke” Stewart was killed on Labor Day when he lost control of the tractor he was driving and rolled down an embankment, Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said last week. Stewart, 77, of Builders Hill in Morganton, was driving his tractor down My Mountain Road pulling a trailer.

The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association held their opening reception for the Contemporary Southern Folk Art exhibit Saturday, September 4. Artist Kristen Ramsey presented her pieces that are shown hanging on the wall behind her, which she cuts and carves designs out of plywood and paints with enamel.

Scam artists preying on Fannin County residents Friday, September 10, struck out as one suspect went to jail, another escaped by only seconds and another never got past the phone call.
