Adopt A Pet

In the past week, officers brought in ten dogs. One dog was reclaimed and one was adopted. Two were transfered to Doggone Rescue and another was transfered to Puppy Mutts Rescue.

Chimps move into new home

Forty former research chimpanzees will have a new home in permanent sanctuary as Project Chimps announced the completion of its fifth and largest chimpanzee house called, “The Chateau.”  Fourteen former research chimps moved into the new residence, led by 220-pound “gentle giant,” Kareem.

Fannin commissioners hear budget requests

The Fannin County Board of Commissioners heard budget requests from select department heads and elected officials Wednesday, October 9.  The Tax Assessor office is requesting $689,063 for 2020. Their 2019 amended budget was $658,493.

McCaysville buys vacuum, wants geese gone from city

McCaysville City Council members agreed to buy a leaf vacuum for $7,800, but tabled a request to provide much needed space for the police department. A trio of alcohol licenses and 15 new street lights were also approved when the council met in regular session Tuesday, October 8, at city hall.

October declared Domestic Violence Awareness month

Fannin County Public Works Director Zack Ratcliff requested that the county purchase a 2019 LeeBoy tar trailer for $13,600 at the Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, October 8. The purchase was approved unanimously and Ratcliff said the trailer will be used for pot hole patching.
