Polk buys vests, CBMC equipment sale planned

Polk County commissioners agreed to buy protective vests for sheriff’s deputies, moved forward to sell equipment at Copper Basin Medical Center and gave County Executive Robby Hatcher authority to carry out several negotiations.

Fannin County Election Supervisor Mary Ann Conner invites Fannin County voters to try out the new Georgia voting machines before the next election. “We have one of the voting units set up in our office and it is ready for anyone who would like to come by and do a test vote on it,” Conner said.

Fire gear, more chimps get okay

Fannin County EMA Director Robert Graham requested to purchase a turn-out gear washer extractor for $5,441 during a Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, October 22.  “Carcinogens for firefighters is becoming a big issue,” Graham said.

Arrest records, reports show deputies busy in Copperhill

Copperhill leaders heard a flurry of complaints at their September meeting directed at the level of law enforcement provided by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.  Those complaints, most of which were lodged by Ron O’Neal, alleged unsolved crimes and slow response times.

Polls open Tuesday

McCaysville voters will be making decisions Tuesday, November 5, that will affect the city for the next four years and beyond when they cast their ballots. Polls will open at 7 a.m. at city hall and stay open all day, until 7 p.m.

Fannin moves to save Shallowford Bridge

The Fannin County Board of Commissioners voted to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in order to keep Shallowford Bridge from being demolished.

Alfie got a head start, catching up on some extra ZZZ’s recently to prepare for the “fall back” time change this weekend. He reminds everyone they can get an extra hour of sleep when Daylight Savings Time ends, so set those clocks back one hour before hitting the sack Saturday night, November 2.

Operation Christmas Child underway

November 18 through 25 is the National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  About this time of year residents purchase small toys, hygiene items, school supplies and special wow items with the sole purpose of sharing gifts, sharing love and sharing God’s Word via a shoebox.
