Thomas asks for $436,000 for 12 firefighters

Fannin County Fire Chief Larry Thomas is requesting that the county hire 12 full-time, paid firefighters next year, during his department’s budget hearing with the Board of Commissioners Wednesday, October 9.

Russell Johnson honored with retirement celebration

Russell Johnson was honored by friends and coworkers with a retirement celebration Sunday, October 13, 37 years after beginning his career in law enforcement. Johnson began that career October 7, 1982, working for Chief Leonard Turner at the McCaysville Police Department.

McCaysville plans permit amendment to vendor law

McCaysville’s Vendor Ordinance will once again be in front of the public when city council members meet for their regular November meeting. Council members have approved a change to the ordinance that will make non-profit permits valid for a year.

No date set to replace Gaddis

The special election to replace Ken Gaddis as a councilman for the City of Blue Ridge is yet to be scheduled.  City officials are set to appear before the Fannin County Board of Elections November 4 to ask the county to host or run the city’s election.

Fannin facing $1.1 million budget shortfall

Preliminary budget requests  and revenue projections show members of the Fannin County Board of Commissioners are looking at a budget shortfall of over $1.l million. Commissioners met Wednesday, October 9, to hear 2020 budget requests from county department heads and elected officials.
Joanne and Larry Kimsey have agreed to a settlement with the City of Ducktown that will fix the sidewalk that was demolished in front of their home on Main Street. The city’s new sidewalk stopped short of the Kimsey’s home after the Kimseys challenged what Ducktown officials promised versus the construction that was about to take place.

Ducktown must meet conditions after Kimseys settle lawsuit

Joanne and Larry Kimsey and the City of Ducktown have resolved the Kimsey’s lawsuit filed against the city over two years ago. The lawsuit was brought by the Kimseys after the city exceeded an easement to improve upon the existing walkway in front of the Kimsey’s Main Street home.
