Early voting starts Mon. in McCaysville

McCaysville voters can begin marking their choices next week when early voting begins for the November city election. Nancy Godfrey, election supervisor for the city, said early voting will begin Monday, October 14, and continue through Friday, November 1.

The Aradis made Snowflake’s last days dog heaven

“The best way to honor a dog you just lost is to pull another one out of the shelter,” said Lester Aradi, co-founder of Horse Creek Stable Rescue Sanctuary. A few months ago, Aradi and his wife Diane opened their home to a new pet – a Golden Retriever named Snowflake.

Adopt A Pet

In the past week, Fannin County Animal Control officers brought in six dogs and six puppies. Three dogs were reclaimed by their owners, one went to Doggone Rescue, one went to Diamond in the Ruff Rescue, one went to Homeward Bound, six went to the Humane Society and two were adopted.

Daughters dedicate grave

The United Daughters of the Confederacy sponsored a grave marker dedication for Private Joel Younger Allen, September 21. Tucked among the trees beyond the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge and the Swan Drive-In off Summit Street sits Crawford Cemetery.

Volunteers, donations still needed for annual book sale

Volunteers and donations are still needed for the Friends of the Fannin County Public Library Book Sale, which will take place October 11 through 13 at the old fire station, 342 West Main Street, Blue Ridge. Volunteers are needed to unpack and sort books Wednesday, October 9, from 1 to 5 p.m.
