Fannin Co. tracking public works vehicles

Fannin County Public Works vehicles are being tracked for $13.95 a month per unit. “It’s a real good tool,” Public Works Director Zack Ratcliff said. According to Ratcliff, he is currently monitoring the vehicles activity and has been since the tracking began in late October.

Parades, service planned as Fannin celebrates veterans

Fannin County will celebrate Veterans Day Saturday, November 9, with a breakfast, a parade and a memorial service. The day begins with a free breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. for all veterans and their families at St. Anthony Catholic Church Parish Hall at 967 East Main Street in Blue Ridge.
Tennessee State Representative Dan Howell, left, presented a $525,000 check for a Community Development Block Grant to Ducktown Mayor Doug Collins, center, and Polk County Executive Robby Hatcher. The money will be used to make badly needed repairs to the main water line leading from the city’s water tower, Howell said. The presentation was made in Benton Monday, October 28.

Water line repair funded

The City of Ducktown has been awarded a $525,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to make badly needed repairs to the public water system. State Representative Dan Howell and State Senator Mike Bell announced the grant last week.

GDOT okays location plans

In a Notice of Location and Design Approval first published as a legal in the October 30 edition of The News Observer, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) officially approved the location and design of a portion of the SR 5 (Highway 5) project.

Suspect charged with meth trafficking

Welch Delano Brown, 53, is being held in the Fannin County Detention Center without bond on charges that include trafficking methamphetamine after his arrest last week by McCaysville police officers.

Armed robbery suspect caught

A tip generated by social media led to the capture last week of a suspect wanted in connection with the armed robbery of the BP gas station on Highway 5 north of Blue Ridge.
