Gribble tells 2019 development progress

Fannin County Development Authority Executive Director Christie Gribble presented a 2019 year end summary during the group’s January 21 meeting. The FCDA was involved with over 100 new jobs in 2019 and estimates to be involved with over 350 new jobs in the future.

Mother, son guilty of two Polk County murders

A son was convicted by  a Polk County jury and his mother then pled guilty Friday, January 24, to the 2017 murders of two Polk County residents. Larry Jeffries, 52, and Jeremy Walker, 27, were discovered dead March 3, 2017, in their Old Fort, Tennessee, home by Jeffries’ nephew.

Qualifying fees set for Fannin offices

The Fannin County Board of Commissioners set the qualifying fees for the 2020 General Election during a meeting Tuesday, January 14.  Each fee, which constitutes 3% of the base annual salary for each office, are as follows: •Chairman, Board of Commissioners at $1,794.

Crash claims Ellijay man

A single vehicle crash claimed the life of an Ellijay man Sunday night, January 26. Christopher McDaniel, 38, died when the truck he was driving left the roadway and rolled over, coming to rest in a ditch, Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said Monday morning.

Be swept away into another world with the Blue Ridge Community Theater’s latest play, “Alice in Wonderland.” The play began on January 24 and will continue through February 9. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Bat conservation efforts earn national attention

“There are things that we are doing here in little bitty Fannin County, Georgia that teachers are taking in places like San Franciso (California),” parent Jocelyn Miller said of her and West Fannin Elementary School’s (WFES) First Grade Teacher Katy Roberson’s recent accomplishment.

Library move, cost questions mount
