DDA meeting off for lack of quorum

After waiting several minutes past the scheduled time, the November 2 Downtown Development Authority meeting was called off due to a lack of quorum. Although it was known that member Nichole Potzauf was not able to make it, Vice Chairman Nathan Fitts and member Susan Catron were no shows.

Fannin 4-H welcomes Rachel Wasserman as AmeriCorps member

The Fannin County 4-H program has welcomed Rachel Wasserman as the new AmeriCorps member for the county.  Wasserman is a native of Dahlonega, Georgia, and is excited to be back in Northeast Georgia.

Blue Ridge Elementary School (BRES) opened its  Bears Farm and Arts Mini Famer’s Market this fall.

Veterans Day importance topic during ceremony

“Every day should be Veterans Day,” retired Lieutenant Colonel George Pletcher said during the Fannin County Veterans Day Ceremony Saturday, November 7. “America owes all veterans a debt that cannot be fully repaid, showing our appreciation is the least we can do.

Three locally contested political races were decided during the 2020 General Election Tuesday, November 3. Republican Johnny Scearce will replace Earl Johnson as Post One Commissioner on the Fannin County Board of Commissioners after receiving 12,125 votes in the race.

Friday meeting lacked quorum

Blue Ridge Mayor Donna Whitener called a meeting for Friday, November 6, but a quorum of the city council was not present. Only the mayor and council members Mike Panter and Robbie Cornelius showed up. Council members Rhonda Haight, Nathan Fitts and Harold Herndon were all absent.

Fannin readying for recount as runoff looms

The eyes of the nation were on Georgia following November 3’s 2020 General Election, which resulted in close federal and statewide races across the ballot. Former Vice President Joe Biden received more votes statewide than President Donald Trump, receiving 2,465,781 votes to Trump’s 2,455,428.

Free flu shots to be offered November 17

Fannin County residents can get a no-cost flu shot at The Farmers Market in Blue Ridge Tuesday, November 17. The event, which is hosted by the Fannin County Health Department, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
