Friday meeting lacked quorum

Blue Ridge Mayor Donna Whitener called a meeting for Friday, November 6, but a quorum of the city council was not present.

Only the mayor and council members Mike Panter and Robbie Cornelius showed up. Council members Rhonda Haight, Nathan Fitts and Harold Herndon were all absent.

The lack of quorum meant no meeting could be held, but Panter and Whitener moved forward with a summary of what was supposed to have been discussed and voted on.

Panter gave an overview of what was going on with the downtown playground.

Whitener, along with Planning, Zoning and Project Manager Jeff Stewart,  told of some projects including the purchasing of picnic tables and chairs to be placed throughout downtown, a pipe replacement on Ada Street and replacing City Hall’s heating and air conditioning unit.

No decisions were made or voted on November 6.

The meeting for Friday was called Wednesday, November 4, after the cancellation of a special called meeting scheduled for the previous Wednesday, which was called off that day after alleged legal threats from Panter against other council members.

Panter denied the claims that he had made legal threats.
