Two men rescued from Blue Ridge Lake

Halloween is supposed to be a time when young and old alike turn their thoughts to candy and costumes. But this year, the night turned almost fatal for two men who had to be rescued from Blue Ridge Lake. Kevin Panter, veteran firefighter/EMT, said an emergency page went out at 10:30 p.m.
Fannin County native Charles Spivey served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He is now a member of the local chapters of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Fannin County native Charles Spivey spent two and half years serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and while he’d do it again in a heartbeat, he endured hardships on and off American soil during his service.

Zeta hits Fannin hard

Fannin County residents woke up to downed trees, flooding and a lack of power Thursday, October 29, as a result of Tropical Storm Zeta, which hit the coast of Louisiana as a Category 2 Hurricane before downgrading to a Tropical Storm and traveling northeast toward Fannin County.

Round Up nears $630,000

Tri-State, TVA partnership brings $10,000 to area

A partnership between Tri-State EMC and the Tennessee Valley Authority has resulted in $10,000 being awarded between three local organizations.

Two-man teams are being urged to enter the Blue Ridge Classic Scramble golf tournament to raise money to help Blue Ridge Police Chief Johnny Scearce. The event will be held at Old Toccoa Farm Saturday, November 10, with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Polk ready for Nov. 3 election

Polk County residents who still want to early vote in the 2020 General Election can do so in Benton through Thursday, October 29. As of Monday, October 26, 4,086 Polk county early and absentee ballots had been cast in the election.
