Woman charged with murder

A Polk County woman remained in jail Monday on a second degree murder charge following a shooting Saturday night, April 9, in Turtletown. Rhonda Richmond, 57, was being held Monday morning in the Polk County jail in Benton, according to Polk County Sheriff Steve Ross.

Fannin County Animal Control had 13 dogs in their care as of Friday morning, April 1. This past week, nine dogs were taken in while one was reclaimed and another was adopted. Homeward Bound Pet Rescue took one dog, and the Humane Society of Blue Ridge took in two.

Bridge repaired, work planned for Shallowford

Repairs to Shallowford Bridge have been completed, leaving Fannin County officials hopeful the structure spanning the Toccoa River can remain open until a new bridge is built.

GDOT plans turning lane to relieve SR 5 backups

The intersection of state routes 2 and 5 in Blue Ridge is not part of the State Route 5 widening project between Blue  Ridge and McCaysville. But Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) officials say they recognize the need to improve the intersection and a plan is in the works.

Help asked to identify body found in Fannin

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is seeking help identifying a man’s body found on Springer Mountain in Fannin County January 21, 2022. The body was discovered off the Benton MacKaye Trail in the area where it is part of the Appalachian Trail.
