Bennett charged with murder, assault

Within minutes after he is accused of shooting Kevin Franklin, Vernon Ronald Bennett was apprehended by  a Fannin County deputy sheriff. Corporal Dustin Carder spotted the vehicle Bennett was driving heading into Blue Ridge on Ada Street from the scene of the shooting.

Criteser’s rescue farm grew from just a couple of chickens

By Hannah Jack Jennifer Criteser of Blue Ridge has recently started a non-profit organization called J&C Farm and Rescue. Starting with just a couple chickens as a way to have a fun hobby, Criteser’s farm quickly began to grow.

Volunteers, sponsors needed as April 30 derby approaches

Volunteers, sponsors and competitors, gear up as the Spring Blue Ridge Soap Box Derby nears their April 30 date. Co-organizer Mike Sullivan said the derby is “community driven for locals” and is an opportunity for children and teens to engage in an activity outside of video games or cell phones.

Fannin County High School (FCHS) senior Kirsten Holloway was named the 2022 Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) student for Fannin County at the Kiwanis Club of Blue Ridge’s annual banquet Monday, February 28.

The dogs at Fannin County Animal Control are ready to be adopted into their forever homes. This past week, three dogs were taken in, while three were adopted, and another was reclaimed. The Humane Society of Blue Ridge took one dog.

Fannin veterans plan membership drive Saturday

The veterans organizations that operate under the Fannin County Veterans Conference Center invite all honorably discharged veterans as well as the public to their membership drive Saturday, March 5. The drive will take place from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
