Poverty simulation workshop planned

Fannin County Family Connection will host a Poverty Simulation Wednesday, March 16, at Fannin County High School. The simulation will take place in the high school’s gym, 360 Rebel Circle, Blue Ridge, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Community celebrates Dr. Garry Day’s retirement

The lobby of Ocoee Animal Hospital was full of well-wishers trickling in and out Saturday, February 26, to celebrate Dr. Garry Day’s retirement after over 40 years treating the animals of North Georgia and Southeastern Tennessee.

Having a “ruff” week? It’s proven that pets can help relieve stress and anxiety, and Fannin County Animal Control has just the trick! This past week, six dogs were taken in, while five were adopted out, and three were reclaimed by their owners. Homeward Bound Pet Rescue took two dogs as well.

DDA’s Black continues work on cell phone reception

Russell Black, chairman and chair of economic development for the Blue Ridge Downtown Development Authority (DDA), is continuing efforts to improve cell phone reception and internet in the Central Business District (CBD).

Blood drives help meet need; benefit Gazaway family

By Hannah Jack Blood Assurance is hosting a blood drive in partnership with the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office in memory of Corporal Richard Gazaway and his wife Heather Gazaway. The blood drive will take place Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, McCaysville police Officer Pete Kusek was called to the parking lot of the Copper Pantry where a man was parked between the gas pumps and Subway slumped over the steering wheel.

Fall in love with a dog at Fannin County Animal Control. This past week, six dogs were taken in while two were adopted, and four were reclaimed. Homeward Bound Pet Rescue took in two dogs. Volunteers are welcome to visit, walk and play with dogs at the facility during business hours.

Chimps receive COVID-19 vaccines

The chimp population at Project Chimps has achieved 91.4% fully vaccinated status for COVID-19. Through a series of vaccine clinics that began September 29, 2021, 78 of 81 chimpanzees received their first dose, and 74 of those received the booster three weeks later.
