Polk County officials are still waiting for the state crime lab to determine the positive identification of a woman who died in a January house fire in Turtletown, according to Copper Basin Fire Chief Marty Senterfitt.

The residents of a Bailey Creek Road home were flown to Grady Memorial Hospital and a Fannin County firefighter was slightly injured as the result of a fire Wednesday morning, January 22.

Technology is bringing Fannin County High School (FCHS) sports history to life. Jeremy King, athletic director at FCHS, was busy last Wednesday night showing off one of four new interactive screens in the Fannin County High School gym that display that history back for all to see.

Two suspects face kidnapping charges in conjunction with a weekend carjacking in Fannin County. Gary Brian Ferguson III, 21, of 2406 Whitestone Road, North, in Talking Rock, and Heather Francis Rudy, 33, of 116 Tarpley Lane in Morganton, are both charged with kidnapping.
