Fannin needs census boost

Only 34% of Fannin County households have responded to the 2020 Census, and the U.S. Census Bureau is still urging residents to respond by mail, phone or online. According to Maria Mangum, Partnership Specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau, the national self response rate is 59.

Ware makes PPE masks for Fannin Regional

Fannin County High School (FCHS) freshman and active Technology Student Association member, Bryce Ware, used a Makerbot 3D printer to produce Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Fannin Regional Hospital employees to use during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Johnson votes against $10,000 increase for work detail

The Fannin County Board of Commissioners voted, Tuesday, May 12, to renew the county’s work detail agreement with the Georgia Department of Corrections at a cost increase of $10,000 to the county.  The county was paying $39,000 and the new contract will cost $49,000.

TVA picks route for new Tri-State transmission line

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has announced the preferred route for the new transmission line along with the location of Tri-State EMC’s new 161-kilovolt substation. A press release from TVA Thursday, May 14 announced the plans.

McCaysville hears bridge replacement coming soon

McCaysville Chief of Police Michael Earley announced that the concrete bridge on Blue Ridge Drive in McCaysville will be replaced in the near future. Earley made the announcement during a city council meeting Tuesday, May 12.

The News Observer office will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. As a result, early deadlines have been set for the Wednesday, May 27, issue so readers will still receive their newspaper on its regular schedule.
