Fannin County Water Authority has broken ground on their Greenhouse Road project.
Kirk McCord, an engineer with Carter & Sloope, told the board during their regular meeting Wednesday, September 8, that he anticipates the project to be completed in three weeks.
He asked the board if they would consider “piggy backing” some of the materials from the project for the Walkabout Creek Road extension to which they obliged.
Modifications to the authority’s bylaws were approved.
Attorney Lynn Doss said the changes were “more of a housekeeping thing.”
She made note that the term limits were inconsistent.
After advertising the proposal in The News Observer and seeking public comments, Doss said they had received none.
In other action, McCord said that they are ready to release material bids for the Evening Shade Trail and Whippoorwill Walk Road project.
He anticipates the materials to exceed $100,000 and said that the “cost and availability of materials has gotten worse, particularly in pipe.”
That being said, he asked the authority if they would prefer to go forward with calling for bids, and then based on the numbers decide if they want to proceed or if they just wanted to hold off at the moment.
Vice-Chair Larry Chapman said that he thinks they should go ahead with the bidding process and go from there.
When Chapman made a motion to do so, it passed unanimously.
McCord provided a quote for 50 water meters for “a really good price” which was $10,750, and the authority approved the purchase.
After a brief executive session over real estate, no further action was taken.
