Jordan Wright honored for saving life

McCaysville Police Department Officer Jordan Wright was honored last week for his efforts to save a baby’s life in August.

Wright received a Lifesaving Award from Police Chief Mike Earley in front of some 200 fellow law enforcement officers at the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Quad Network Banquet Thursday evening in McCaysville.

Earley told how shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, Wright heard an Emergency Medical Services dispatch for a nine-month-old baby having difficulty breathing at the Copper Pantry in McCaysville.

Wright responded, was approached by a couple with the child, and found the baby turning pale and struggling to breathe.

The officer cleared the baby’s mouth of obstructions then administered back blows. The baby began crying and the child’s breathing immediately returned to normal.

During these life-saving efforts, a piece of plastic about two inches long was dislodged, Earley said.
