McCaysville alcohol changes dry up

After spending close to an hour performing the second reading of the amended alcohol ordinance, McCaysville City Council members refused to vote on the matter during a meeting Tuesday, October 13.

Habitat for Humanity makes home ownership possible

Former active duty Marine Kristen Haley is officially a Habitat for Humanity of Fannin and Gilmer Counties home owner as of Wednesday, September 30. “We owe a humongous thanks to Attorney Laura J. Ray and her all-star team,” Executive Director Christopher Hall said.

Community theater re-opens

Blue Ridge Community Theater (BRCT) has cautiously reopened, according to BRCT President Patricia Webb. “Due to the on-going interactions with our patrons and our theater family, your Blue Ridge Community Theater has cautiously planned the remainder of a 2020 Season,” Webb said.

Farmer’s Market, taxes, alcohol challenge council

The City of Blue Ridge met Tuesday, October 6, to discuss business during a lengthy workshop. Councilman Mike Panter brought up the fact that Sisson Company has been using the Farmer’s Market to store their supplies at no cost.

Toys for Tots sees increase in need

Members of the Marine Corps League Detachment 1438 expect a large increase in need for their annual Toys for Tots program this year. Last year, the program collected over 2,800 toys and around $15,000 in cash to purchase toys. Overall, they distributed 3,853 toys to 920 children.
