Fannin may help with UNG RCUT funding

The Fannin County Board of Commissioners will consider contributing to the funding of the planned Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) in front of the new University of North Georgia (UNG) Blue Ridge Campus following a presentation from the university at the board’s regular meeting Tuesday, April 13.

Building a system of dams and reservoirs to control flooding, as well as to generate power, was the first task the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) completed in its beginning. That said, Fannin County and its surrounding areas have seen a lot of heavy rainfall recently.

Molestation suspect charged

Another accused child molester has been put in jail following a Fannin County Sheriff’s Office investigation. Edward Flandio Ritchie, 42, of 2811 Mineral Bluff Highway, Mineral Bluff, was arrested April 1 by Investigations Captain Justin Turner.

Fannin Sheriff's Office takes part in DEA drug take back

The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office is again participating in a national effort to keep prescription pills out of the hands of children and others for whom they were not intended. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Take Back initiative is planned for Saturday, April 24.

Infrastructure at root of flooding, diesel spill

Severe flash flooding seen in recent weeks and The City of Blue Ridge's failure to address an infrastructure problem five years ago are being blamed for a diesel spill downtown. Approximately 25 gallons were spilled, which was discovered March 26.
